The Ethiopian Project
In a land of incredible beauty lies
a terrible reality, the plight of the orphan. In 2008, it was
reported that more than 6 million children have been orph
aned in
Ethiopia alone. Out of that 6 million children only 1725 were
adopted by Americans. Clearly adoption is not the answer to the
orphan crisis in Ethiopia
If you follow the Ambo road north
and west out of Addis Ababa, you will come through a small community
that has been crippled by poverty, drought and disease. During the
summer of 2009 Grace Giving International sent a team to investigate
this impoverished area with the intention of helping this community
become self-sufficient. The team met up with a local church and an
immediate partnership began.
Boudro, to this small community called Burayu to pave
the way for 2 missionaries to arrive. Carole and Sandy arrived in
November and have been running full speed ahead. They have already
built a kitchen in order to feed the children and are teaching
English classes.
What We Do
GGI
is committed to seeing Burayu become self-sufficient. This is a
monumental undertaking and we are excited to participate in the
Lord's work in this area. We are committed to sharing the Gospel,
providing a meal twice a week, teaching basic life skills, assisting
in health care and school tuition. We have also set up a food
distribution center where families can receive a weekly package of
food staples. GGI is working very hard with local Pastors to
know the exact needs of the community and respond to them
appropriately.
Mission
The
Ethiopian Project is working as an extension of the Ethiopian Mission
Society Church and is seeking to partner with families in providing
resources for the entire family. Through life skills training,
academic and biblical instruction we strive to nurture each student's
learning and thinking, and equip them with the tools to achieve a
prosperous future within Burayu and the surrounding
communities.
Belief
The
Ethiopian Project believes that every child should have the
opportunity to be introduced to God, enjoy the blessing of family,
and be equipped to succeed at life in Burayu.
Goal
The
paramount goal of this project is to share the love of Christ with
every child in Burayu and empower them to become self-sufficient in
their community.
What
You Can Do
Within the Christian church we know that
one of the privileges we enjoy is that of community. Within a
community there exists many skills, gifts, experiences, backgrounds
and cultures. Grace Giving invites you to join us in
transforming lives in an economically and spiritually depressed rural
community in Burayu.
